Meaning & Analysis
This signed screen print in colours on wove paper was produced by the internationally acclaimed American artist and designer, KAWS in 2018. Coming in an edition size of 100, the print depicts an abstract composition of graphic shapes in bold and vibrant colours. The print is part of the Alone Again collection and was shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit in 2019.
Far, Far Down is a signed screen print in colours on wove paper produced by the internationally acclaimed American artist and designer, KAWS in 2018. The print depicts an abstract composition of graphic shapes in bold and vibrant colours. The print differs from many of KAWS’ other prints which feature his beloved cartoon characters.
The print is one of three screen prints that belong to the Along Again collection. The prints were all shown at KAWS’ solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit in 2019, along with five of KAWS’ sculptures. By 2019, KAWS had become an internationally acclaimed artist who had collaborated with prominent celebrities such as Kanye West and Pharrell Williams, as well as notable brands like Nike, Comme des Garçons and Uniqlo. The prints in this collection capture KAWS’ unique visual style, characterised by a playful experimentation with colour, as well as the use of bold gestural lines and distinctive graphics.
KAWS’ visual style can be traced back to his experimentation with graffiti and love of street art. Born Brian Donnelly, KAWS started experimenting with graffiti art while at school in New Jersey. ‘KAWS’ was in fact the tag he used when spray painting buildings, and the name stuck with the artist ever since then.
