BANKSY, RAT WITH 3D GLASSES, SPRAY PAINT AND EMULSION ON BOARD, 2010
Rat With 3D Glasses is a unique Banksy original, which appeared as a mural painted on the stage door of the Egyptian Theater in Utah, US in 2010. It features one of Banksy’s favourite figures, the rat, wearing blue-and-red 3D glasses against a block grey background. It’s not officially known why Banksy uses rats in his artworks - possible explanations are that they’re a reference to the “working class”, as well as a reference to famous French graffiti artist Blek Le Rat. He uses the rodents because “rat” is an anagram of “art”.
Other notable Banksy artworks featuring rats are Love Rat and Radar Rat, and Gangsta Rat.
