Jamie-Hewlett

British artist Jamie Hewlett is best known for the being the co-creator of the comic book Tank Girl and co-creator of the virtual band the Gorillaz.

After leaving Northbrook College, West Sussex in the late 1980s, Hewlett created Tank Girl for the music and culture magazine Deadline. The character became a style icon within the media and eventually Hollywood showed interest and a film was released. Although a commercial failure, Tank Girl proved vital in Hewlett’s artistic growth and in 2001 he set up his own graphic design/animation company, Zombie Flesh Eaters. It was through Zombie Flesh Eaters that Hewlett began collaborating with musician Damon Albarn, designing and creating all the artwork for the Gorillaz project.

In 2006, Hewlett was awarded the coveted Designer of the Year Award by the Design Museum for his Gorillaz artwork. In 2015 Hewlett held his first exhibition, Suggestions, at the Saatchi Gallery, London. His limited edition prints and paintings now appear for sale in a range of major galleries.
