Sotheby’s, London – Wednesday 24 June 2015

Auction news is coming thick and fast this week, so we thought we’d roll with it! The latest to come out of Sotheby’s London – a Gustav Klimt piece of Gertrud Loew – the daughter of Klimt’s doctor, selling for almost £25m.

Estimated at £12m-18m, the painting sold quite significantly above estimate, but was preceeded by what was described as ‘a painfully slow’ bidding battle between two buyers.

In total, all lots sold brought in £178.6m – art experts suggesting this is a signal of continuing strength and momentum at the top end of the art market.
