Dismaland, Bemusement Park. A five week long ‘festival of art’, which we all suspect is curated by infamous street artist Banksy, will open this Saturday 22 August in Weston-super-Mare.
The website promises the exhibition will appeal to those “looking for an alternative to the sugar-coated tedium of the average family day out”, or some “entry-level anarchism” and specifically denies entry to any legal representatives of Disney.
With his typical dry wit and scathing assessment of the capitalist machine Banksy delivers a summer exhibition to be remembered with a roster of nearly 50 international artists involved in the project. Visitors can expect to see work by the likes of Damien Hirst, Turner Prize nominee David Shrigley, Caitlin Cherry and many many more. What’s more, a programme of live music and comedy events are scheduled throughout the exhibition which sees Pussy Riot perform in Weston-super-Mare on 25 September.
