There must be something in the air at the moment, auction results just keep getting more and more extravagant with ever more interesting tales and anecdotes.
Last night saw something pretty special for the owner of Boys With New Ties by Sir Peter Blake.
Jinty Stephenson bought the painting direct from Blake after a casual visit to his studio when the two were in college together. A student at the time, Stephenson wasn’t able to pay the full amount, so would pay Blake in £3 installments every weekend at the local pub!
The painting exceeded its estimate of £350,000 ($534,000) and eventually sold for £662,500 ($1,038,800).
