The prestigious private collection of Don and Mera Rubell, formerly known as the Rubell Family Collection, opened its doors as the Rubell Museum with a spectacular exhibition on December 4th, coinciding with Art Basel’s VIP preview.

Consisting of over 7,200 artworks by 1000 artists, the impressive collection found its new home in a massive refurbished warehouse in the neighbourhood of Allapattah, redesigned by Selldorf Architects. Spanning over 40 galleries, a performance space, library and bookshop, and a chic courtyard restaurant, it also hosts the collection’s artist residency program. The ambitious debut features 100 artists and 300 artworks, including great crowd-pleasers and collection highlights Cindy Sherman, Richard Prince, Keith Haring and recent Turner prize (co)-winner Oscar Murillo. The exhibition also showcases a variety of in-demand emerging talent such as Allison Zuckerman, Cy Gaven, Jonathan Lyndon Chase, and works by the current artist-in-residence, Ghanian-born painter Amoako Boafo.
