Meaning & Analysis
This etching was executed by Tracey Emin in 2009 and forms part of our Nude Drawings collection. At the centre of a white paper background is a dainty black ink etching of a woman’s torso and pelvis, with the bottom of her legs and head omitted.
Perpetually using her experiences and her body as inspiration, Emin’s work offers viewers a glimpse into how the artist views the world and herself. Like many of her Nude Drawings, the face of the figure is left out of the print, allowing the viewer's attention to rest primarily on the feminine body itself. While Emin only portrays a naked torso and pelvis in this work, the shape created by the subject’s spread legs is typically playful.
