When Banksy first unveiled Choose Your Weapon in Bermondsey, London in 2010, the hooded figure walking a cartoon dog was immediately recognised as a nod to Keith Haring’s famous Dog motif. Within months, the image became a print release through Pictures on Walls, sparking queues so frenzied that Banksy created the “Queue Jumping Grey” edition for those who missed out.
The series has since grown into one of his most extensive print runs, spanning over a dozen colourways – from Bright Pink and Bright Purple to rarities like Fluoro Green and Sky Blue – all of which carry varying degrees of scarcity and desirability.
From 2019 through mid-2025, Choose Your Weapon has generated more than £4.5 million across 47 public auction sales, cementing its place as one of Banksy’s most reliable print series.
Illustrated in the graph above, the 2021 high was driven by both the number of works sold and the inclusion of rarer variants, including Fluoro Green, which achieved £302,400 and set the auction record for the collection. Sales slowed into 2023 and 2024, a result of fewer works being traded publicly. In 2025, however, results in the first half of the year already show growth compared with 2024, with four works reaching a cumulative hammer of £194,200. While volumes remain below the extraordinary activity of 2021, these figures demonstrate both scarcity and continued momentum in the series.
Average values have moved in line with supply dynamics. Choose Your Weapon peaked in 2021 at an average of £138,000, before settling into a lower range as fewer works came to auction. By 2025, the average value sits at £48,500 – just 5% shy of the previous year despite higher sales volume. This suggests a healthy recalibration, and underlines the resilience of the series in a more selective market.
The structure of Choose Your Weapon is more complex than a standard edition breakdown, and it’s this framework – combined with colour preference – that underpins its market dynamics.
Main Colourways (editions of 25): Bright Pink, Bright Purple, Dark Orange, Khaki, Light Orange, Slate, Soft Yellow, Turquoise, Lemon, Olive, Magenta, Red, Sky Blue, and Green.
Main Edition Grey (100 prints): the most widely available colourway, forming the benchmark for the series.
Special VIP Editions (25 each): Gold, Silver, White, and Hand-Finished White, released outside public distribution and rarely surfacing at auction.
Queue Jumping Edition (Warm Grey, 58 prints): produced by Pictures on Walls after the notorious overnight queues, issued to collectors who complained about missing out.
Artist Proofs (various colourways, total of 58): extremely scarce, with only a handful surfacing publicly, including Dark Purple, Dark Blue, and Magenta.
This edition framework means that all Choose Your Weapon colourways are inherently rare, with most printed in editions of just 25. In this series, colour preference becomes the strongest determinant of value.
The market is further shaped by auction frequency: some colourways have resurfaced multiple times, providing liquidity and benchmarks, while others have appeared only once – or not at all creating pent-up demand built on scarcity. Securing a desired colour in the public auction cycle is therefore highly uncommon, adding to the competitive intensity when rarer variants emerge.
Resale patterns reinforce how scarcity influences results. Infrequently seen works such as Sky Blue generate outsized competition when they resurface – its 2025 appearance achieved £81,900 – 7% up from it's only other auction appearance in 2024. By contrast, more available colourways like Bright Purple and Cool Grey provide a more reliable rhythm of sales, giving the market both stability and moments of breakout performance.
For consignors, successful sales depends on strategic timing and placement. Rare editions continue to achieve record-setting results when released sparingly, while more frequently traded colourways reward careful positioning to avoid oversupply. Private sales are playing an increasingly important role in striking this balance, offering tailored opportunities to match specific colourways with motivated buyers.
For collectors, Choose Your Weapon prints offers multiple entry points. The very rarest variants carry a clear premium, but consistent six-figure results across mid-tier editions demonstrate that the series retains both cultural resonance and market stability. With liquidity across the collection, Choose Your Weapon continues to be one of Banksy’s most dependable print markets.
