Liberty (red) is a signed screen print by street artist, Stik. Released in 2013 in an edition of 25, this print was inspired by a mural of the same name by the artist in New York City. Liberty (red) is printed in white, red, and black and depicts a stick figure with one arm extended, emulating the Statue of Liberty herself.
Liberty combines Stik's characteristic six-line stickman with a keen sense of geography to create a visually arresting piece. Although the work's obvious connection is with the Statue of Liberty, the renowned landmark that Stik's figure evokes in its posture, the piece also has a more particular resonance that is tied to its specific location. Stik's protesting stickman acknowledges the thousands of individual acts of courage that have marked the history of Tompkins Square Park in the course of the park's existence.
