Meaning & Analysis
Liberty (teal) is a signed screen print by street artist, Stik. Inspired by a mural in New York City of the same name, this print was released in 2013 in a limited edition of 25. Liberty (teal) combines Stik's characteristic six-line stickman with a keen sense of geography to create a visually arresting piece
Although the work's obvious connection is with the Statue of Liberty, the renowned landmark that Stik's figure evokes in its posture, the piece also has a more particular resonance that is tied to its specific location. Stik's protesting stickman acknowledges the thousands of individual acts of courage that have marked the history of Tompkins Square Park in the course of the park's existence.
The print serves as an eloquent monument to the tenacity of communities that have endured great hardship.
