Invasion In The UK is a mixed media artwork made by the renowned French street artist Invader in 2007. Coming in an edition size of 50, Invader has produced a book with a micro-mosaic tile cover kept in a plexiglass box. Against a blue backdrop, Invader renders an alien in red titles zooming across the book cover, ready for attack. The alien is a character from the popular arcade game, Space Invaders, which was created by Japanese game manufacturers Taito in 1978.
The book accompanies Invader’s impressive installation project, the Space Invaders project, which involves the artist travelling all over the world to install ceramic mosaics of aliens onto city walls. Invader has explained the premise of the project: ‘I explore international densely populated urban areas and "invade" them.’ In this artwork, Invader provides detailed information regarding the location of the mosaics he installed during his UK ‘invasion wave.’
As well as producing books, Invader has created an online database which tracks all of his projects. The artist has also created maps which showcase the impressive scale of the project and the vast areas Invader has successfully ‘invaded.’
