Spanish-born artist Joan Miró was a pioneering surrealist painter, sculptor and ceramicist. Although often cited as a forgotten figure in Surrealism, Miró was inspired by marrying the subconscious, surreal fantasy with Catalan folk motifs drawn from his heritage. His works are a vibrant fusion of abstract forms, dancing with vivid colours, biomorphic shapes, and symbols. Taking inspiration from both Fauvism and Cubism, Miró paired his expressive, painterly technique with carefully calculated composition and a geometric approach. Miró's unique visual language set him apart from his contemporaries, establishing him as one of the foremost painters of the subconscious mind.
