Grand Hotel I is a signed blue ink lithograph by Tracey Emin released in 2016 in an edition of 100. Picturing a figure lying face down on a bed defined by a series of fluid lines and marks, Grand Hotel I is a prime example of Emin’s distinctive use of the negative space afforded by her white paper background.
Characteristic of Tracey Emin’s typically fluid and sketchy style, this print has been created with a dizzying application of blue ink. Emin pictures a woman - perhaps herself - laying face down in bed with her hand on her crotch. Given the intimate setting of the lithograph and the concentration of ink around the figure’s crotch, the composition has a sensuality which is so integral to Emin’s life and work.
