About Preservation Arts

Founded by Rowan Geiger, a distinguished graduate of the Royal College of Art in London, Preservation Arts has emerged as a leading conservation studio on the West Coast, dedicated to the museum-quality preservation of artworks and objects. Drawing on her extensive experience with prestigious institutions such as the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and SFMOMA, Geiger recognised the necessity for high-caliber conservation services within the private sector, leading to the establishment of Preservation Arts in 2013.

Located in Oakland, the studio has rapidly expanded to accommodate a growing demand for expert conservation treatments across a variety of mediums, including paintings, works on paper, objects, and outdoor sculptures. This expansion was further propelled by the addition of emergency response services following the Northern California wildfires, showcasing the studio's adaptability and commitment to preserving cultural heritage under challenging conditions.

The team at Preservation Arts, now comprising 16 professionals, maintains an array of private and public collections, offering bespoke conservation treatments and collections management services. Upholding the highest ethical standards, each project is approached with a deep understanding of its unique historical and contextual significance. Adhering strictly to the American Institute for Conservation (AIC) guidelines, Preservation Arts stands as a paragon of integrity and innovation in the field of art conservation, where the preservation of artist intent and the long-term care of cultural treasures are paramount.
