Meaning & Analysis
Odours Of Punt is a screenprint by Jean-Michel Basquiat, initially conceived in 1983 and posthumously released in 2024. This limited edition of 60 exemplifies Basquiat’s dynamic style, integrating vibrant colours and complex imagery that characterise his work.
In it's original state, Basquiat employed his signature Xerox collage technique to create Odours Of Punt, combined with paint and oilstick, to create a visually arresting composition. The artwork is marked by abstract forms and fragmented imagery, typical of Basquiat's ability to blend disparate elements into a cohesive whole. This screenprint is a vibrant rendering of the Neo-Expressionist work. Released by the Estate of Jean-Michel Basquiat, it reflects the artist’s exploration of themes such as identity and cultural history. The posthumous release in 2024, overseen by his sisters, underscores Basquiat's lasting impact on the art world. As a piece that bridges past and present, it stands alongside other notable works, reinforcing Basquiat’s position as a pivotal figure in modern art.
