59 x 76cm, Edition of 295, Giclée print

Emerging from the second release of The Beaten Path collection in 2017, H Street, Washington, DC, a signed giclée print from an edition of 295, presents Dylan's exploration of American urban transformation. This nocturnal scene captures the historic H Street Corridor, a neighbourhood that embodies resilience and change just blocks away from the U.S. Capitol.
H Street, Washington, DC depicts the corridor's characteristic Victorian-era architecture illuminated by street lamps against a deep blue night sky, with a single solitary figure moving through the scene. Originally built in 1849 to house workers constructing Washington DC's foundational infrastructure, the area evolved into a thriving commercial district following the introduction of streetcars in the 1870s.
Dylan's artwork coincides with the 2016 return of streetcar service to H Street, adding temporal resonance to his capture of this evolving urban landscape. The National Trust for Historic Preservation called the H Street Corridor a “Great American Main Street,” highlighting its significance as a representative American space - the kind of real American space that Dylan documented in his The Beaten Path collection. Despite existing within the sphere of political power, this piece centres upon the everyday commercial and residential life. Dylan seeks out the hidden layers of meaning within seemingly ordinary spaces, transforming an unremarkable Washington street into a meditation on the modern American experience.
