55 x 41cm, Edition of 295, Giclée print

Created in 2016, Manhattan Bridge, Downtown New York Medium is a print released in an edition of 295 as part of Dylan’s The Beaten Path series. This urban landscape captures the iconic bridge framed by New York's towering architecture. The work reflects Dylan's perspective as a touring musician who has performed countless times in the city, transforming a familiar landmark into a personal artistic statement.
The Manhattan Bridge dominates this composition, its steel framework rendered in bold strokes rising up between the geometric foreground of downtown buildings. Dylan's style emphasises the contrasts in colour, line, and lighting between the bridge, its cables, and the smaller red buildings in front. The bridge has featured in countless works of art and photography since its completion in 1909, yet, within the larger The Beaten Path series, Dylan's treatment of this well-known image focuses on its role as connector between Brooklyn and Manhattan - both geographically and culturally. His colour choices highlight the industrial materials that built modern New York, celebrating the engineering achievement whilst acknowledging the history that preceded it.
The piece connects to Dylan's own relationship with the city, where he established his early music career in Greenwich Village clubs. Rather than depicting the bridge as mere tourist attraction, Dylan presents it as working infrastructure that continues to facilitate the movement of people and ideas that have made New York a cultural capital.
