Banksy's 2000 Precision Bombing (green) is a spray paint on canvas multiple, from an edition of 10. Featuring 5 figures walking towards a car, under surveillance by a precision pointer, the artwork reflects Banksy's views on government surveillance, while drawing viewers into an intense cinematic scene of a doomed getaway.
This image can be interpreted as a commentary on war, violence and the surveillance state. The target shape in this artwork also reflects a recurring theme that is found in Banksy’s artworks- paranoia. Many of Banksy’s works imply that nobody can be trusted and people are always being watched or surveilled by a powerful elite. The target also resonates with themes of war and violence which feature prominently in Banksy’s artworks.
Produced in 2000, the artwork captures Banksy’s departure from freehand painting in favour of using stencils, a method which enabled him to produce artworks in a fraction of the time so as to avoid being caught by the police.
