Precision Bombing (green) is an early original Banksy spray paint and acrylic canvas from 2000. The signed canvas comes in an edition size of 10 and depicts a group of male silhouettes and a sports car in the artist’s iconic spray paint stencil style. The car appears to be the target of a gun, indicated by a green precision pointer. The background of this canvas is light green and the image has been recreated in various colour iterations.
This image can be interpreted as a commentary on war, violence and the surveillance state. The target shape in this artwork also reflects a recurring theme that is found in Banksy’s artworks- paranoia. Many of Banksy’s works imply that nobody can be trusted and people are always being watched or surveilled by a powerful elite. The target also resonates with themes of war and violence which feature prominently in Banksy’s artworks.
Produced in 2000, the artwork captures Banksy’s departure from freehand painting in favour of using stencils, a method which enabled him to produce artworks in a fraction of the time so as to avoid being caught by the police.
