Favela Villa Candido presents a colourful mosaic of tightly packed houses sprawling over a hillside, encapsulating the essence of life in a Brazilian favela - this sensitive treatment of diverse urban communities, both inside and outside America, can be seen across his entire body of work. Dylan uses his characteristic vivid palette and bold, textured brushstrokes, to capture the atmosphere of Favela Villa Candido and to honour the resilience of communities living in these neighbourhoods.

The composition's depth invites exploration of each corner, revealing the intricacies of urban life through a style reminiscent of Post-Impressionism with its emphasis on light and form, while also exhibiting elements of Modernist abstraction. This work exemplifies Dylan's shift from the romantic depictions of his earlier career to more textured, authentic representations of the places he visited. The Brazil Series was first exhibited at the National Gallery of Denmark in Copenhagen in 2011, marking a significant moment in Dylan's artistic recognition.
