Untitled No. 1094 is a 2011 digital print by David Hockney, an iPad drawing signed and issued in an edition of 25. The still life shows a glass bottle and an empty glass on a plate, with a knife and fork lying across the table.
A small bottle with a yellow cap and a printed label stands beside a tall glass on a turquoise plate, with a knife and fork resting behind them. The glass objects are drawn through lines of grey and white, with the plate’s colour showing through them, so that transparency is conveyed without any shading. Behind the objects a field of hatched blue and grey gives way to a dark red-brown table in the foreground. The subject is modest, a table setting of the kind that might be left after a meal. The drawing treats it with close attention to reflection and surface. Hockney made still lifes throughout his career, from the paintings of the 1960s to the flower pieces of the iPad series. He has said that the iPad allowed him to draw quickly from life.
