Sunliners 5 is a 1996 intaglio print by Ed Ruscha from the series Sunliners, signed and numbered from an edition of 50. Two clear glasses of different sizes hover against a dark ground streaked with horizontal lines.
A larger tumbler stands at the left and a much smaller one at the upper right, both drawn in pale blue and white with brighter highlights at the rim and base. The ground behind them is a deep blue-black, scored with fine horizontal lines that are heavier at the top and bottom and sparser through the middle. The difference in scale between the glasses and their placement at different heights give the picture a sense of space without any indication of a table or horizon. The effect is of two objects set in an abstract field, the viewer left to work out their relationship. As with the other prints in the series, the surface has an even, velvety tone, with the highlights standing out against it. The pairing of glasses is rarer in the group than the single glass, giving the composition a rhythm that the others do not have. The print is numbered and signed in the margin.
