Meaning & Analysis
I Kept Thinking Of You is an etching by Tracey Emin, created in 2016 and released in a signed edition of 50. Within the monochromatic work, Emin captures the feminine curvature of the female sitter, who could very likely be Emin herself. Like most of Emin’s reclining female nudes, the face of the sitter is left anonymous. Through her sporadic application of ink to the printing plate, Emin creates atmospheric drama around the figure.
Through her typically insightful use of negative space, I Kept Thinking Of You uses expressive blocks of ink to over accentuate the curvature of this reclining nude figure. With another blot of ink, Emin draws the viewer’s eye to the pubic hair of this figure, giving this feminine form an intense and unabashed appearance which is so particular to Emin’s work.
