And About, composed of vertical lines in eight varying colours, arranged in a seemingly random order, is instantly recognisable as the work of British painter Bridget Riley. This signed screen print was released in 2011 in an edition of 120. Having produced abstract artworks in series for over six decades, the stripe remains Riley’s most iconic geometric form, enabling the artist to deep dive into exploring the effects colour can have on optics, emotions and the psyche.
Within this self-determined set of parameters - fixed forms and colours - Riley believes the controlled, formal logic of her works allows for a more intense synaesthetic freedom. Riley experiments with simple, structural units in her works to explore the physical and psychological responses of the eyes when regarding her works.
