Signed Print Edition of 100
H 89cm x W 58cm
Blame Game iii is a signed screen print in colours on Saunders Waterford High White paper. The print was made by the critically acclaimed American artist and designer, KAWS, in 2014 and depicts a close-up section of a cartoon character’s face. The nature of the image’s cropping means it is hard to discern what part of the face is being seen, and even when looked at closely, the viewer is deprived of clarity. One can make out two eyes, a pair of teeth, a nose and a hand, and the viewer is encouraged to imagine the rest.
The print is part of a collection of 10 screen prints, the Blame Game collection, all of which show close-ups of a cartoon character’s face. The prints in the collection are rendered in bright and bold colours which imbue the works with a sense of playfulness. The collection captures KAWS’ flat, graphic style and love of colour. The prints all include a variety of colours and bold, black gestural lines.
KAWS’ visual style can be traced back to his love of graffiti when growing up in New Jersey, which he further developed when living in New York. The artist also studied illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York and worked as a freelance animator for Jumbo Pictures. KAWS’ experience working in illustration and animation clearly mark his works and aided his development as an excellent draughtsman.
